Classic Black

What goes great with black glass? Silver and some ivory. Two of my favorite items to work with. Ivory reacts to silver in organic ways and I love it. Silver all around does interesting things depending upon how you layer it, heat it and what glass you use it on. I loved how this one turned out so much I had to put it on a pendant.

Handmade Pendant No. 2

I'm on a roll! Another pendant in my shop! I love this one. The shape of the bead is gorgeous and the design is loaded with pink, silver and gold, what a dream! The pendant is made from .925 sterling silver 14 gauge wire. Pounded into shape with a hammer, great way for getting my daily stress out. The entire pendant is about 46mm in length. Available now under my shop tab.

Handmade Pendant

Hi all! I've got a new item in my shop. I decided to string this focal up on a sterling silver handmade wire pendant. The wire is 14 gauge sterling silver and the bead is made by me. I think I mostly picture this pendant looking beautiful with work outfits, don't get me wrong I think it would look fab with any outfit, but how nicely would this jazz up that sometimes basic outfit for work. The colors in this lampwork bead are prefect for matching almost anything. A beautiful ginger glass wrapped in silver foil. Stringer work done in Tamarind, med. pink, & pink gold.

New Beads, New Beads!

Hi! Just dropping in quickly to post photos of my newest bead set which will be available for purchase via my Etsy shop by tonight. I love, love the way the silver foil works on the Ginger (CiM) glass. It reacts a lot like dark and light ivory does to silver. With the color combo and mx of silver foil these new baubles are eye-catching!

Hot Tuesday!

Holy hot outside around these parts. I think most of us are experiencing a heat wave right now. I'm sure there are a lucky few of you lapping it up on a beautiful beach spot somewhere..sigh...I know I wish I was!

Since I'm not basking it up at the beach how about some bead pictures instead. This little trio was done with some Frit Fairies spring meadow mix. One of my favorites because it has a great light and airy mix of colors. And IF you didn't know their frit is 104 coe!

My hopefully it fixes my kiln piece has arrived in the mail today, yay to that! I sure hope that it fixes it I'm desperate to snag some torch time, sooo many ideas and nowhere to go with them!

Back but Broken

Soooo....It's been awhile, shame on me! Believe you, me I have missed my studio time. Between work, a wedding, graduations and birthdays things have been so crazy that it's left little time for bead making, as in zero.

Things finally slowed down and I went down to my studio to do some beading the other day.
I had spent the day before cleaning it because the last time I was in there I left it in a shall we say a "creative" state.  I was very excited to get going. First order of business turn on the kiln to get it up to temp. Flipped the switch, the familiar long beep started, pushed a few buttons to get to the right settings and click the kiln started....ha, so I thought. It takes about 45 mins for it to heat up to temperature where I need it to be for garaging my beads while I make them. In the meantime I putzed around the studio dipping mandrels or pulling glass colors to use. While I was doing all of this it struck me how quiet it was in my studio. Too quiet. I turned around to check out the kiln....80 degrees it said...hmmm it's been at least 20 mins it should be much hotter, wait why isn't it humming like it IS heating up..and wait it's not clicking as the temp changes either. Actually the temperature isn't even changing. Hoping that maybe I had something set wrong or maybe it was heating up it just hadn't been as long as it felt while waiting. I turned it off, reset things and tried again. Nope....still not heating up. Then I see the error code on my paragon kiln. TCL. Really? I'm thinking to myself, please let this be no big deal.

I grab the manual and look up the error code and after reading some mumble jumble then calling the husband because I KNOW he'll understand it better the conclusion is drawn that its the relay in the kiln. Good news, fairly cheap and easy fix. Bad news, not sure when it's going to arrive.

Sooo in the meantime I thought I'd share some beads that I had done before the kiln broke but never got around to snappin' pics of, now that I have lots of time waiting for the kiln the be up and running again!

Have a great weekend! Keep your fingers crossed for me that my kiln part arrives soon, like this weekend would be great!

Color Inspiration

Hi all! Boy it has been a long time since I posted here! Today I have a few color inspiration samples.

It doesn't matter what kind of art  you are creating, color is a huge part of each art creation. Colors help translate the emotion the artist is trying to portray. Even when I am making beads color is a one of the biggest parts of my design planning. I've noticed I tend to choose colors that mimic my mood. If I'm feeling more subdued one day I might choose colors that are darker in shades. Happier moods bring out happier brighter colored bead designs like pink, orange, yellow, green.

BUT it's more than just picking colors to match your moods. It's also about making the colors harmonize together. If the colors don't "work" together the whole design can come out looking less than satisfactory.

I've been taking a lot of time to research colors. How they affect our moods, what they mean and how they work together on a color wheel. I've also restarted my little color inspiration book which I use to reference when I'm having "beaders block" - just like writers block I get stuck and can't think of what to make or what colors to use and hit the point where I'm ready to tear out my hair! ARGH!

I started this book awhile back, but found it was too small. I have since upgraded to a very large book to hold all my color ideas. Every day we are surrounded by colors, colors and more colors! I take those every day colors and use them as my inspiration. When I see colors that work together I then find paint chips to match those combos which get glued into my book. Then the hunt begins to locate magazine clippings of items that match those paint chips. My friends who are all too sweet provide me with all their old magazine subscription once they have finished reading through them.  I have quite the large pile building up in the corner of my craft room, I think they think I'm a little crazy for taking all the old magazines but I put them to great use for myself.

Once I have the paint chips and the magazine clippings that match I glue them all together in my book. This creates the perfect color sample of the colors I want to combine in my glass designs. I generally try to pick out three colors that work together, however, many times the three that I have together are all harmonious and can be used as any two or three together, in other words not all three have to be used.

Alright enough with the minor technical part. Onto some pictures. Below are some of the color samples from my book and beads I've made that were inspired by these colors. Enjoy!!

Here we have Pink, Orange & Green, all in bright shades. How fun these colors are together! The writing under each color sample corresponds with the glass color name that I either plan to use or did use to create the look.

Here are my bead results. I chose not to use the lime green in the above color sample and instead opted for just the orange and pink. All three colors above will work together in any combonation. I could have used pink and green or orange and green, ect. I also could have changed the shade of the colors. Made them more pastel or opted for darker shades (sorry for the blurry picture...I'm still figuring out how to get great pictures of my baubles, that's a whole other adventure).

Next is pink, black and gray....very sexy / punk chic color combonation.

Again here I chose to only use two of the colors. I picked pink and black. I left the gray out for no reason other than I wasn't feelin' it. The pink I used is also lighter than the one in the picture, but that's ok there is a lot of room for playing around with the shades of color used. I could have used a dark pink instead and it would have looked fine.

One more quick thing, here is a link to a fabulous site that allows you to either click a color (along the right hand side) and it will show you numerous color combonations for that particular color or you can also customize it and pick exactly what colors you want to see together AND you can save it!! Check it out if you're stuck and in need of color inspiration: Color Combos

A Home For My Beads

Since I keep making beads I'm finding that my beads are requiring more housing. I approached dear hubby with my idea of wanting a white display stand for my beads. Something very simple but cute. I'd been seeing some really neat storage ideas online. Even purchased a few box displays so I could transport the beads on display if I wanted. What I really wanted though was a cute display stand for at home in my studio. Something that didn't look so utilitarian.

We took some time to think out exactly what I wanted and he came up with what he needed to get it done. Other than that I can't take any credit for this project, I sat this one out. From what I hear this was not as easy a project as it seemed like it was going to be. I'm not sure I will be getting many more of these made for me but in the finish of this project I actually got two of these bad boys (whoot (thank you dh)!) They turned out exactly as I had hoped.
